Rising from under the shadow of the beautiful Taranaki Mounga in early 2024, Pāpa Salt is a whanau and friends-based band that shares its mix of indie/alt/surf rock and ska-composed music with crowds all around the region.

The band’s smooth vocals and easy-to-listen-to rhythm sections, supported by flowy, sophisticated lead guitar, turned heads and helped them gain a following early on in their career. The band is known for bringing a crowd to every venue they play at,  commonly playing at Fitzroy Board Riders, Mike’s Ales, and Pekaren. They have also performed for crowds at larger venues, such as Paris Plage and the Hillsborough Holden Museum.

The band is made up of Aaron Hickson on bass, Jimmy Tariau with his buttery backing vocals, Keaton Chase on lead guitar, Jason Petera on the drums, and the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Tane Petera.
